New Waterways Chaplain carves wooden crosses

Robert and Pip Sanday have recently been licensed as full Waterways Chaplains at the end of their probationary period. Their ministry is at Devizes on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Robert, who is a retired vicar, has a particular ministry carving hand held crosses. He says he is terrible at carpentry “I cannot saw anything in a straight line. What I have found in making these crosses, is that the imperfections add something rather than distract.

At the end of a chaplaincy conversation, if led to, I offer them to boaters and the people we meet along the towpath as a gift. Imperfections and all. And I remind people that we all have so much to offer. Even our imperfections. Because the only one who is perfect is Jesus himself.”
