A new probationary Waterways Chaplain for Gloucester and Sharpness Canal

Waterways Chaplaincy are pleased to welcome our newest Probationary Chaplain, Liz Angell….

I am a recently retired vicar. My full time ordained ministry was in Leicestershire and Shropshire. I have been a missionary in Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo) and also worked with Tearfund supporting partner organisations and projects in Rwanda, Burundi, DRC and Madagascar.

I’m not a boater but I’ve always been fascinated by canals and enjoyed narrowboat holidays and walking along towpaths. Being a Waterways Chaplain enables me to engage with those who are not necessarily connected with a church and to continue to fulfil my calling to the marginalised.

I am very excited about this new ministry and have really appreciated fellowship with other chaplains. I look forward to developing relationships with regular canal users and to the opportunities now and in the future presented by the restoration of the Stroudwater Canal.
